classes & Workshops

QCT’s education program, open to students of all ages, is dedicated to providing innovative arts education instruction, high-quality student production work, and mentorship opportunities for our community’s emerging theatre artists.
QCT’s friendly and expert staff instructors ensure the highest level of engagement and challenge for students at every skill level; whether you are a first-timer or a veteran performer, great arts education can inspire confidence, improve creative problem-solving, and exercise collaboration skills, unlike any other discipline.
Classes are typically offered in the spring (February-March), summer (June-July), and fall (October-November); special sessions, workshops, and/or masterclasses are programmed throughout the year on a rolling basis. No prior theatre experience is required unless specified in the class description. All classes and workshops, unless otherwise noted, will take place in the QCT Lab Theatre. Enter through the Stage Door on Kentucky Street.

Spring Break Intensives

KIDS COMPANY | SPRING BREAK EDITION

Spend the week at QCT and play fun theatre games, act out spring-themed stories, and see what’s cooking on our stages. Kids Company is a creative play class for kids who love to tell stories.

DOG MAN’S SUPA SPRING BREAK

He’s half-man, half-dog, and all SUPA COP! Dog Man is back for another round of play-making mayhem this Spring Break—we’ll read a Dog Man story, adapt it for the stage, then present our wonderfully wacky work for friends and family on the last day. This class calls for a mix of teamwork, reading and writing, design and acting… no theatre experience is necessary!

ACTING THROUGH DANCE
Grades 7 – 10

Do you love dancing? How about acting? Learn how to connect the dots (or…steps) with this engaging dance class for all skill levels. Students will learn basic choreography and invent a scene where the dance tells the story. Led by Guest Instructor and COME FROM AWAY choreographer Lauren Rotante.

DIY KARAOKE MUSICAL
Grades 7 – 12

Do you have a song that ends up on every playlist? And whenever you listen to this song, do you imagine a story playing out in your head? Of course you do! Come spend part of your Spring Break with us and write a mini musical that features your favorite bop. On the last day, we’ll show off our karaoke jukebox musicals for friends and family.

Love video games? Level up your writing and acting skills by creating a real-life game in this fun class! We’ll invent crazy characters, design levels, and write short scenes that—depending on how well the audience can play—might end in a game over.

RPG 101: LEVEL UP YOUR CHARACTER

If you love D&D (or any tabletop game!) and want to come up with a killer backstory for your rogue, paladin, or warlock—this class is for you. Through fun writing games, roleplaying exercises, and sheer creative brainstorming, your character will be the one everyone wants to follow at your next gaming session.

PLAYWRITING

Get that play you’ve been dreaming up out of your head and onto the page! This class will focus on short-form playwriting with an emphasis on structure, dialogue, and creating compelling characters. Even if you’ve never written a play before, you’ll be equipped with the tools you need to start your playwriting journey.

INTRO TO ACTING

Have you always wanted to try acting, but not sure if you’re ready for your first audition? Or you just want a fun and low-stakes opportunity to work on a scene? This is the class for you! You’ll learn the basics of stage acting and try your hand at acting out a selected scene with a partner. Absolutely no experience necessary!

If you haven’t been to our FREE monthly Improv class, what are you waiting for?! This is a casual, low-stakes, drop-in event where we learn improv comedy games, play those games together, and laugh (like, A LOT). No experience, materials, or registration is necessary– just show up ready to try something new, meet some cool people, and exercise that funny bone. Even if you’re on the fence about getting on stage, come by and watch us play (trust us, you’ll want to jump in). Bring a friend! Improv Club is for adults 18 and up and meets in our Black Box Theatre. Enter through the Stage Door on Kentucky Street, unless otherwise noted.
