Quincy Community Theatre launches “Every Voice Heard” campaign for a new sound system
Quincy Community Theatre (QCT) is launching Every Voice Heard, a $500,000 capital campaign to replace and modernize the theatre’s aging sound system.
QCT has been a staple in the Quincy area for over a century, bringing live theatre, music, education and community programming to audiences. A new sound system will help ensure that every audience member can experience programming with greater clarity, consistency and quality for years to come.
“Sound is one of those things you may not notice when it’s working perfectly, but you absolutely notice when it isn’t,” said Burgundy Hill, Executive Director of Quincy Community Theatre. “Unfortunately, our sound quality is not where we would like to be right now, and our audiences have noticed. This project is about making sure every voice, every lyric, every music note and every story reaches every seat in our theatre.”
The existing sound system infrastructure was installed in 1995, with patchworked updates since. Equipment reaching the end of life, advances in technology and the demands of increasingly ambitious productions have made a complete replacement necessary.
“Announcing this project has been about 18 months in the making,” said Hill. “We wanted to make sure we did our due diligence in finding the root of our sound problems and appropriately vet the right solution. The difference will be noticeable to our audiences at every performance.”
The new system will provide improved audio quality, greater reliability and increased flexibility for QCT’s productions, educational programs and outside performances. It will also offer a complete ADA-compliant assistive listening system, allowing patrons with Bluetooth-enable hearing aids to connect directly to the performance audio.
The campaign’s name, Every Voice Heard, reflects QCT’s belief that every performer deserves to be heard, and every audience member deserves the opportunity to experience the performance fully.
With $60,000 already raised, QCT is inviting the broader community to join early supporters to reach the campaign’s $500,000 goal. QCT hopes to complete the sound system installation in 2027, contingent upon reaching the campaign goal. With a full calendar of productions, the project will require careful coordination to minimize disruption to performances.
“We’ve gotten the campaign off the ground, but there is still a long way to go,” said Hill. “This project is about more than just buying equipment. QCT belongs to this community, and we hope our community will take this opportunity to help shape what the next generation of QCT sounds like.”
