Quincy Community Theatre welcomes Ethan Nienaber as Guest Director of NEWSIES

Quincy Community Theatre announced Ethan Nienaber will serve as Guest Director for the organization’s upcoming production of Newsies. Nienaber replaces the previously announced director, Stephen Santa, who had to leave the production due to personal reasons.

Performances will be held in QCT’s mainstage, July 19-21 & 25-28. Auditions are by appointment May 11-12. Roles are available to adults aged 18 and over, and students aged 10-18.

Ethan Nienaber (he/him) is a director, producer, and educator based in the Twin Cities, MN. Select directing credits include: A Christmas Carol (1st Nat’l Tour, Assistant Director), Emojiland (Off-Broadway, Associate Director), Decky Does A Bronco (U.S. & Off Broadway premiere), Madwomen of the West (Off Broadway premiere, Associate Director), Footloose (GREAT Theatre), Singin’ in the Rain (Lakeshore Players Theatre) and The Forge Series – a new work company supporting the next generation of musical theatre writers that he is also the Founder and Co-Producer of. As a teacher, Ethan has worked with Lincoln Center Education, Lakeshore Players Theatre, his alma mater and private acting students all over the country. He holds a BFA in Acting from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

“I am elated to ‘Seize The Day’ and join QCT in bringing this beautiful story to life,” said Nienabar. “Newsies serves as a fantastic call-to-action for those looking to ignite their own passion and take the road less traveled while pursuing their dreams. I look forward to ‘Carrying The Banner’ in Quincy this summer!””

Set in turn-of-the century New York City, Newsies is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a band of teenaged “newsies.” When the titan of publishing raises distribution prices at the newsboys’ expense, Jack rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions and fight for what’s right! Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family.  Featuring original Tony-winning music from the iconic Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, and book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Feinstein.

Newsies is part of our season ticket line-up. Flex Ticket holders can start reserving seats on June 13. General tickets go on sale June 25, and start at $27.
