Welcome back to QCT, Brendan!
Quincy Community Theatre is pleased to announce the return of Brendan Shea as the Education Director, starting June 1, 2024.
“There are so many more stories left for us to tell together on the QCT stage; to say that I’m excited to reunite with our amazing students is a serious understatement,” said Shea. “In my time since leaving Quincy, I’ve learned a lot about myself: who I truly am, what I want and (most importantly) where I belong. QCT isn’t just an artistic home. It’s my chosen community.”
Shea has an MFA in Dramaturgy from Harvard University. Upon the completion of his degree, he held a variety of roles at Harvard’s American Repertory Theatre, which included writing, directing, teaching, and the development of the theatre’s Education and Community department. He served as the Education Director at QCT from January 2020 through August 2023.
“We are thrilled to welcome Brendan back to QCT,” said Burgundy Hill, Executive Director. “He has already sparked a love of the performing arts in so many of QCT’s students. With his experience and enthusiasm, the future of the program is bright.”
Education is a key component of QCT’s programing and outreach. As the Education Director, Shea will direct four student theatre productions annually, collaborate with area schools to teach in-class workshops, and create a robust selection of classes at the theatre for performers of all ages. Through productions, classes, and outreach workshops, more than 5,000 area students are exposed to theatre education each year.
Shea will begin teaching classes this summer, including QCT’s Triple Threat Boot Camp in August. He will also direct The Phantom Tollbooth, QCT’s student theatre production in October.
