Quincy Community Theatre welcomes Shoshana Canali as Guest Director of LOST GIRL
Quincy Community Theatre announced Shoshana Canali will serve as Guest Director for the organization’s upcoming production of Lost Girl.
Performances will be held in QCT’s studio space, The Lab Theatre, June 13-16, 2024. Auditions are by appointment April 29-30, 2024. Roles are available to students currently in grades 8-college, as well as one older adult female to play the role of “Mother.”
Canali is a director based out of New York City; she holds a BFA from Webster University. With experience directing, teaching, and coaching throughout the United States (Westchester Sandbox Theater, Denise Simon Acting and Coaching, T. Schreiber Youth Acting, Actors Connection, etc.)
“The story of Lost Girl feels deeply personal to me,” said Canali. “In the original Peter Pan we see Wendy Darling as a child, and then we see her as an established adult, “ever so much more than twenty”. We miss the part where she navigates the transition from young child playing in Neverland to adult with children of her own in the nursery. Frankly, if you asked me how and when I became a true grown-up myself, I couldn’t tell you. As I have gotten older, I have started to see how the different chapters in my life interweave into one another more than cleanly open and close. Even as confusing and painful as Wendy’s journey can be at times, I hope to continue to navigate each chapter the way she does in this beautiful play: abandoning anyone else’s expectation, and instead staying true to her own heart and her own timeline. This story requires so much care and imagination to be told fully, and from what I hear about the passionate theatre community in Quincy, I think we can build the perfect team to tell it here.”
What ever happened to Wendy Darling in the years following her childhood adventure with Peter Pan? Even though she has left the nursery window open all these years in the hope of Peter’s return, long gone are the flights of fancy, pirates, princesses and Neverland. Wendy decides that she must find Peter to reclaim her kiss and move on with her life. Along the way, she meets other girls who went to Neverland and learns she is not alone. With empathy, grace and remarkable honesty, Lost Girl is a coming-of-age exploration of first love and lasting loss, continuing the story of J.M. Barrie’s beloved character – the girl who had to grow up.
“QCT ended its centennial celebration last year by producing Peter Pan,” said Artistic Director Brandon Thomsen. “We thought it would be exciting to follow that production by exploring the effects that Peter’s visit had on Wendy. This is a thought-provoking piece that suits our intimate Lab Theatre so nicely, and I am thrilled to welcome Shoshana to Quincy to continue the story.”
