May Spotlight: Q&A with Nicole Herrington
This month’s Spotlight features our Box Office Associate, Nicole Herrington!
Tell us a little about yourself!
I grew up here in Quincy! I’ve been with QCT since December 2021 as the Box Office Associate. My family and I returned to the area in 2019 and I’m thrilled to be working in a theater setting again. I spent 10 years working professionally in theater management all across the country including Chicago and New York City. Growing up in Quincy, I was very active in choir and the fine arts activities at QHS (musicals, plays, show choir, etc.)
What has been your favorite/most memorable show to work on?
This is such a tough question! I have been lucky enough to have worked on so many great shows at wonderful theaters, but if I have to choose Murder for Two is really special to me. It is a two-person musical comedy where one person plays the detective and the other person plays all of the suspects – and they both accompany each other on the piano. It’s so, so funny and the music is fantastic. I company managed it off-Broadway and then managed the national tour which was a blast. I made so many close connections with everyone involved with the production (cast, crew, creative, and theatre staff, literally everyone!) and it’s an experience I hold so dear and will never forget.
Favorite theatre memory?
Every opening night performance and after-party! As a Company Manager, spending several months and countless hours pouring yourself into a production – to finally have an audience to share it with is such a thrill. Then getting to celebrate with everyone is always so much fun!
What would be your dream show to work on?
The musical Once would definitely be at the top of my list. It’s such a simple and beautiful show. I feel like our community would love it.
What parts of our mission do you connect with?
“To offer and perpetuate quality theatre entertainment and education in the performing arts through community participation.”
QCT’s commitment to education really resonates with me. I love that we have a team that is passionate not only about providing quality entertainment but also about making sure we are offering opportunities to teach something new or think about something in a new way.
What are you most excited about this summer?
We are taking our son to Disney! He’ll be six and I can’t wait to have that memory with him.
Your favorite memory of your time off-Broadway?
Meeting Liza Minnelli! She came to see a show I was managing and I had to introduce myself to her and ask if she’d take a photo with the cast. After I introduced myself, she grabbed my hand with both of hers, shook it, and said very excitedly “Hi Nicole, I’m Liza!” It was so perfect!
