READING: Middletown

MIDDLETOWN is a deeply moving and funny play exploring the universe of a small American town. As a friendship develops between longtime resident John Dodge and new arrival Mary Swanson, the lives of the inhabitants of Middletown intersect in strange and poignant ways in a journey that takes them from the local library to outer space and points between.

QCT will be holding three special one-night-only events to give audiences and volunteers a chance to participate in three additional plays! The readings will serve as a stepping stone for budding actors and directors alike while also opening the conversation with audiences to engage with challenging contemporary/new works. All readings will be script-in-hand performances in the Black Box Theatre. All titles are responses to classic works – Our Town, The Crucible, A Doll’s House. These selections are made to challenge our perception of how classics shape and inform our current lives and culture. In these readings, we hope to drum up more conversation about the importance of classics as well as celebrate the new voices in American theatre who are responding to those stories from the context of our modern day.
