QCT Presents: Chicago Tap Theatre
Chicago Tap Theatre will present Unleash the Beats on Friday, September 26, at 7:30 pm. This one-time QCT Presents performance is a celebration of tap dance and live music from the 1920s to the future.
Founded in 2002, Chicago Tap Theatre is a growing and vibrant dance company dedicated to preserving the quintessentially American dance form of tap while taking it to the next level of creativity, innovation, and quality. CTT performs exclusively with live music provided by some of Chicago’s finest musicians, playing everything from Duke Ellington to David Bowie and many artists in between. Under the dynamic direction of master teacher and performer Mark Yonally, CTT has gained a loyal and sizable following in Chicago and continues to tour both nationally and internationally. Having pioneered the “tap opera” format, which tells stories with compelling characters and intriguing plots, CTT has used the language of tap dance, live music, and narration to move audiences for over 22 years.
Chicago Tap Theatre Masterclass
In addition to Friday evening’s performance, dancers from CTT will also be hosting a 90-minute tap intensive workshop on Saturday, September 27, from 10:00 – 11:30 am at Cheryl Kaiser School of Dance. Students will practice exercises that take familiar steps and ideas and recontextualizes them rhythmically, musically, and pattern-wise. The ability to execute steps with greater speed and finesse, as well as picking up and remembering material, are just some of the benefits of this class. This workshop is suited for ages 14+. All experience levels are welcome! Tap shoes are recommended, but not required.
