Quincy Community Theatre (QCT) is bringing Edward Albee’s WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? to its Black Box Theatre November 5-8, with a formidable four-person cast.

What begins as drinks after a faculty party quickly turns into a night none of them can easily escape.

After returning home for the evening, George and Martha invite a younger couple they have just met, Honey and Nick, to join them for a nightcap. But as the drinks flow and the hours grow later, playful conversation gives way to biting wit, long-held resentments, and deeply buried truths. Relationships are tested, illusions begin to unravel, and all four are drawn into an increasingly volatile battle of love, ambition, disappointment, and desire.

QCT’s production of WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? brings together Jeri Conboy as Martha, Dan Conboy as George, Gabi Jones as Honey, and Mike Robinson as Nick. Phil Funkenbusch directs the production, with Cathy Gooding as Stage Manager.

“When Edward Albee’s play premiered, it shocked audiences, and its film adaptation did the same, so I’m excited to explore how this great American classic resonates today,” says director Phil Funkenbusch. “Having had the opportunity to work with Albee, I’ve long appreciated the complexity beneath George and Martha’s fierce games and carefully constructed illusions; ultimately, as Albee said, it is a love story. I’m inspired by QCT’s decision to bring this bold, adults-only play to the Black Box Theatre. This extraordinary cast proves once again that QCT attracts the very best.”

Sharp, darkly funny, and emotionally charged, Edward Albee’s WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? is a gripping examination of marriage, societal expectations, and the stories people create to survive the lives they have built.

WHO’S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? is the final show in QCT’s inaugural Black Box Series. Black Box Series ticket holders may begin reserving seats on September 15. Tickets go on sale to the public on September 22 at 1QCT.org.
