QCT welcomes new Student Theatre Director/Head of Education

Quincy Community Theatre is proud to announce the selection of Brendan Shea as its new Student Theatre Director/Head of Education.

Shea has a MFA in Dramaturgy from Harvard University. Upon completion of his degree, he held a variety of roles at Harvard’s American Repertory Theatre which included writing, directing, teaching, and the development of the theatre’s Education and Community department.

“Brendan has an energy and passion for student theatre and education which will undoubtedly inspire every student he has an opportunity to teach,” said Sara Reuschel, Executive Director. “His experience will not only continue QCT’s strong commitment to theatre education in the classroom but will also inspire new class offerings at the theatre for students of all ages.”

Education is a prime component of QCT’s mission. As the Student Theatre Director, Shea will direct four student theatre productions annually, collaborate with area schools to teach in-class workshops, and create a robust selection of classes at the theatre for performers of all ages. More than 5,000 area students are reached by the in-class workshops and classes at the theatre each year.

“I have only been a Quincy resident for a (very) short time,” shares Shea, “but am already struck by our community’s generosity of spirit, support for the arts, and curiosity for new experiences. I look forward to sustaining QCT’s already stellar in- and out-of-school programs, while developing new and exciting educational adventures for artists of all ages. And, of course, like so many of us– I can’t wait to see Frozen, Jr.!”

A welcome reception for Shea will be held at Quincy Community Theatre on January 14 from 5pm-6:30pm. The public is invited to join and to get to know the new employees as the theatre kicks off 2020 and prepares for the new season.
