The Boxcar Children Cast & Director Announced!

boxcar cast and director Rich-sm Based on the cherished book series by Gertrude Chandler Warner, The Boxcar Children comes alive on the QCT stage this October.

The story follows the four Alden siblings who have just been orphaned after a tragic accident. Knowing they will go to different foster homes, they escape into the woods and make their home in an abandoned boxcar. But someone is desperate to find them. The Boxcar Children is a powerful story that proves home can be anywhere as long as you have your family by your side.

For this production, QCT welcomes Guest Director Rich McCoy from Jacksonville, IL who brings over 30 years of community theatre directing experience. His credits include directing for Springfield Muni, Hoogland Center, Springfield Theatre Centre, Theatre in the Park at New Salem, and Jackson High School where he also taught English. For the past six years, Rich and his wife Laurie have run the Playhouse on the Square in Jacksonville.

“I am thrilled to direct at Quincy Community Theatre,” shares McCoy. “Its reputation, its history, and its commitment to area youth has made QCT a model for community theatres throughout Illinois. The Boxcar Children promises to be an energetic and compelling evening for audiences of all ages. “

After auditioning over 80 actors in August, a cast of 12 local performers were selected. The cast features Chase Wilford as Henry Alden; Gabby Caley as Jessie Alden; Evie Tallcott as Violet Alden; Quinton Miller as Benny Alden; Joseph Doellman as The Kid; Andy Caley as Officer Banning; Dana Caley as the Bakery Woman; Beth Deters as Mrs. Truman; Brennan Hills as Dr. Samuel Truman; RJ Ley as Mr. Alden; Crystal Perry as Mrs. Alberts; and Heather Salmons as Sarah Calder.

The Boxcar Children is under the direction of Rich McCoy, with technical direction by Lorne Kelley, costume design by Tania Ballve, stage management by Cathy Gooding, and assistant stage management by Jen Shackleton.
